Styles of Shiatsu
There are as many different styles of shiatsu as there are
therapists. Here are a few other styles of shiatsu found from
Wikipedia.
- Namikoshi Shiatsu - is the
orginal style created by Tokujiro Namikoshi
- Tsubo Shiatsu - was
created by Kiyoshi Ikenaga,explains from an anatomical
and physiological point of view, how meridian points (or Tsubo) are
useful in shiatsu therapy.
- Zen (Masunaga) Shiatsu -
the book written by Shizuto Masunaga popularised Zen (or Masunaga)
Shiatsu in North America and Europe.
- Shinso Shiatsu - was
created by Ted Saito who has practiced shiatsu in Toronto
since 1971
- Shanti Shiatsu - created in 2008 by Melissa
Michele Phillips
- Meridian Shiatsu - was established by Tadashi
Izawa, incorporating Meridian Theory of Traditional Chinese
Medicine (TCM) into his shiatsu therapy
- Tao Shiatsu - was established by Ryukyu Endo,
a Buddhist priest, and involves concentrating the mind and making
supplications to the Buddha
- Ohashiatsu - was developed by Wataru Ohashi
- Quantum Shiatsu - derived from Zen Shiatsu it was
developed by Pauline Sasaki and Cliff Andrews,and aims to
work with different levels of a person's energy: physical,
emotional, mental, and spiritual
- Movement Shiatsu - was developed by Bill
Palmer and David Ventura,which specialises in working with chronic
conditions through specific experiments and exercises
- Aze Shiatsu - is a Spanish Shiatsu school founded
in Madrid by Shigeru Onoda,
- Suzanne Yates: founder of Well Mother located in Bristol
England, she focuses on shiatsu and pregnancy.
